Key Stage One and Two Curriculum

The main aim in primary is that pupils develop lively enquiring minds with the ability to question and apply themselves to tasks both intellectual and practical. If children are confident, they will acquire basic skills, knowledge and concepts and be prepared to use these skills in a wider context.

The primary curriculum is based on the British National Curriculum. It is adapted to suit the needs of the pupils in the school. The curriculum includes the following subjects: literacy, numeracy, science ICT, history, geography, art, music, P.E, design and technology, Thai language and culture, personal and social education.

In brief the content of the core subjects is as follows:-

Literacy Pupil's abilities are developed within an integrated programme of speaking and listening, reading and writing. A love of language is fostered through stories, drama, songs, rhymes, poem and creative writing. The reading scheme follows The Oxford Reading Tree along with other supporting texts.

Numeracy:  Developing mathematical language, selecting and using materials, and developing reasoning is set in the context of other areas of maths.  Sorting, classifying, making comparisons and searching patterns applies to work on number, shape and space, and handling data.  The use of number permeates work on measures and handling data. In years 1 and 2 all work is recorded in workbooks and supported with texts.  The numeracy scheme follows the Abacus framework with other supporting texts.

Science:  We start with what the child knows so their understanding of science is related to everyday experiences.  Children's natural curiosity is fostered so they will be encouraged to ask "How? Why? And If" questions.  Where possible science work is integrated with the themes being studied.  Where there is no match the science is taught separately.  Science topics are taken from the British National Curriculum.

A thematic approach: is used in the main where all areas of the curriculum are integrated as much as practicable.  A topic is chosen and applied across all areas of the curriculum.

General: In Key Stage 1 homework is set three times a week.  In year 3 homework is set 4 times a week.

All parents are welcome to view the reading, mathematics and science schemes upon request and further elements of the curriculum.
